  • Holy Trinity The Monastery of Holy Trinity is the most difficult to reach, but once you get to the very top, the panoramic view of the surroundings is simply captivating!
  • Great Meteoron The Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron is the oldest and largest of the monasteries of Meteora.
  • Varlaam The Monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery of Meteora.
  • St. Barbara of Roussanou The Holy Monastery of Roussanou has received the name of the first probable hermit who settled on the rock.
  • St. Stephen This is the most accessible monastery, where instead of steps you simply cross a small bridge to reach the entrance.
  • St. Nikolaos Anapafsas The Holy Monastery of Saint Nikolas of Anapafsas was founded at the end of the 14th century.
  • Adrachti A distinctively tall, thin rock pillar resembling a needle, sticking out from a narrow valley visible from Kastraki and parts of Kalambaka.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards are widely taken in shops, hotels and for transport, but not in some restaurants; carry some euros.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — For sending money to India, not for paying in shops; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not required; leave a euro or two, or round up, in restaurants. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip, though rounding up to the euro is common.
