Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Basseterre: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in January and August; quietest in April and May.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — US dollar notes are taken by most shops and businesses alongside Eastern Caribbean dollars, but change comes in EC dollars and US coins are not accepted. Major cards are taken at most hotels and restaurants, and ATMs are widely available.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Taxi drivers appreciate a tip but do not require one.

Getting around Saint Kitts and Nevis

Taxi fares from the airport are set by law, the same for 1 to 4 people: US$10 to US$16 (EC$27 to EC$43) to Basseterre, by area, and US$20 (EC$55) to Frigate Bay; the rates are posted at arrivals. Minibuses, with green plates beginning with H, run from Basseterre and stop anywhere on the main road, but do not generally go to Frigate Bay. Passenger ferries to Charlestown, Nevis, take about 45 minutes, from EC$25 (US$10) one way for adults.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Taxis have no meters but set fares: use a licensed one, with a yellow plate whose number has T or TA, agree the fare before you set off and check whether it is in EC or US dollars.

Several passenger ferries run every day between Charlestown, the capital of Nevis, and Port Zante in Basseterre, which is the capital of St. Kitts. The schedule can be viewed at ifare.kn. More on Wikivoyage

TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
