Tours and tickets in Lyon

Each site opens on its own search: choose your dates there. A few open on their home page, where you type the place too. Links marked Ad pay us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you; most pay nothing, and what a site pays never decides whether it is listed or where. How we rank

No fare history for this route yet, so this ranking is climate and crowds only — the price column will fill in as the scanner collects.

Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Place Bellecour, 20 km from the airport (LYS): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to August; quietest in January, February and April.

Then and now

Lyon's June days now average 27.0°C, 4.6°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 8 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Lyon is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and E plugs at 230 / 400 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for France: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Visa, Mastercard and French CB cards work in almost all shops, restaurants and hotels, and contactless is widespread. Some places post a minimum spend for cards.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Only at a few places, through Lyra: Eiffel Tower tickets bought online and the Galeries Lafayette store on boulevard Haussmann in Paris. Bring a card for everything else.
  • Tipping — Not expected, as service is included by law; locals leave small change or a few euros for good service. Taxi tips are optional.

Getting around Lyon

Tap a contactless bank card or phone on the TCL readers on buses and trams and at metro and funicular entrances (zones 1 and 2). Or load singles (€2.10) or a 24-hour pass onto a €0.20 rechargeable ticket from TCL machines, or buy a €2.40 single on the bus; validate each time you board a bus or tram or enter a metro or funicular station, changes included. Rhônexpress runs from the airport to Part-Dieu in 30 minutes: €17.40 one way at station machines, €16.30 online, €4 more on board.

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, FreeNow, G7, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.

The city centre is not so big and most attractions can be reached from each other on foot. The walk from Place des Terreaux to Place Bellecour, for example, is about 20 min. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency) · police 17 · ambulance 15 · fire 18.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 7 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
