No fare history for this route yet, so this ranking is climate and crowds only — the price column will fill in as the scanner collects.

Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the lakefront: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in August and September; quietest in April.

Getting there

How far Geneva is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Swiss franc. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Switzerland: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted almost everywhere, and cash still works. Locals often pay with TWINT, a Swiss payment app; a visitor can simply use a card.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Service is included by law; round up or add up to about 10% in restaurants if you were pleased. Never required.

Getting around Geneva

Buy a ticket at the machine at the stop (cash, bank cards or Twint) or in the tpg app; it needs no validating. A zone 10 ticket covers all of Geneva for 60 minutes (CHF 3.00), and a day card costs CHF 10.00 and lasts until 5 am the next day. Guests of hotels, hostels and campsites registered with Geneva Tourism get a free Geneva Transport Card on their phone, for buses, trams, trains and Mouettes boats in zone 10 for their whole stay, the ride from the airport included. Trains from the station under the airport terminal reach Cornavin in 7 minutes on a zone 10 ticket.

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.
