Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.
Weather read at Punta Cana: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.* Rainy days in November are as the weather station at Punta Cana (1 km away) counts them, where it and the model disagree on a wet month (WMO 78479, 2017–2026).
A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.
How busy it gets
Then and now
Punta Cana's October days now average 29.5°C, 1.6°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 12 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Type A and B plugs at 110 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Dominican peso. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Global Affairs Canada: Exercise a high degree of caution. US State Department: Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. Everything for Dominican Republic: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.
Being there
On arrival
- Paying — The currency is the Dominican peso (RD$), and most prices are in pesos. US dollars and euros can be changed at banks and authorised exchange offices, and businesses in tourist areas often take dollars, at a less favourable rate. ATMs are widespread and give the best rate, but card cloning and skimming are common: use machines indoors and by day, and keep your card in sight when paying.
- UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
- Tipping — Restaurant bills include a 10% service charge as well as the 18% ITBIS tax, but leaving another 10% for the server is customary; taxi drivers are not usually tipped.
Getting around Punta Cana
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is a 30-minute drive from Bávaro. Arrange a pick-up with your hotel before you arrive, or take a taxi from the airport's official stands, agreeing the fare first as taxis have no meters; car hire is available too. Expreso Bávaro coaches run between Bávaro and Santo Domingo every day.
- Apps — Rides: Cabify, DiDi, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Taxis have no meters. At the airport, use only the official taxi stands; in town, have your hotel call a 24-hour taxi firm, confirm the car's colour and the fare when booking (rates within cities are set by the taxi association), and never share a taxi with strangers. Avoid motorbike taxis (motoconchos).
Tour operators: Most passengers arriving in Punta Cana International Airport have prearranged local transportation through a tour operator. More on Wikivoyage

Help
- Emergency — 911 (any emergency). 911 does not cover the whole country: outside Santo Domingo, call the tourist police (CESTUR) on +1 809 200 3500.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
Your embassy — : how to reach your embassy or consulate abroad. A guess from your city, : a city is not a passport.
