Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Budva, on the coast, 16 km from the airport (TIV): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from May to August; quietest from October to March.

Then and now

Montenegro's June days now average 27.7°C, 3.3°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 7 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Montenegro uses the euro. Most restaurants, hotels, bars, petrol stations and shops take cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express), and there are ATMs in every town; use those inside banks where you can, and keep some cash for markets, stalls, small bakeries, museums and buses.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.

Getting around Montenegro

Tivat airport (TIV) is about 20 km from Budva; taxis charge fixed prices to and from the airport, so confirm the fare first. Budva's city buses, run by Mediteran Express, leave from the roundabout on Mediteranska street, opposite the Perla café, all year from 6am to 1:30am: to Sveti Stefan every 10 minutes until 10pm, and to Petrovac about every hour.

  • Apps — Rides: MonteGO. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: Viber, WhatsApp, Messenger. Use only licensed taxis, with a roof sign and the company's name and number on the side, and check the price per kilometre or agree the fare before you set off; at Podgorica airport, take one of the licensed taxis in front of the terminal.

This may be the quickest way to get around Montenegro. Buses are frequent (especially during the summer), safe and are more or less on schedule. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency). For an accident at sea, call 129, the rescue unit of the Maritime Safety Department.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 8 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
