Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the old town (Hlavná), 6 km from the airport (KSC): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from July to September; quietest in January, February, October and December.

Getting there

How far Košice is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and E plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Slovakia: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards are widely accepted in shops and restaurants in bigger cities, though cash is still used for over half of payments in shops. Since 1 May 2026 most businesses must offer a cashless way to pay above €1, but it may be a QR code or bank transfer rather than a card reader.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Round up or add about 10% in cafés and restaurants, telling the server the total as you pay; it is not usual at counters or bars.

Getting around Košice

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, Hopin, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Hopin books Bratislava taxis, paid in cash or by card, and also sells public transport tickets.

Košice has a small and compact city centre, and is mostly navigable by foot. If you are staying in the suburbs, the tram system is cheap and efficient. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — police 158 · ambulance 155 · fire 150.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 7 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
