Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the Main Square, the old town, 8 km from the airport (BTS): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to September; quietest from November to March.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards are widely accepted in shops and restaurants in bigger cities, though cash is still used for over half of payments in shops. Since 1 May 2026 most businesses must offer a cashless way to pay above €1, but it may be a QR code or bank transfer rather than a card reader.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Round up or add about 10% in cafés and restaurants, telling the server the total as you pay; it is not usual at counters or bars.

Tickets are also sold in the IDS BK app, and paper tickets from stop machines and newsagents must be validated in the first vehicle. Bus 61 links Bratislava airport with the main railway station. From Vienna airport, Slovak Lines buses (from €7.90, cards taken by the driver) run to Bratislava's bus station, main railway station and Most SNP.

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, Hopin, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Hopin books Bratislava taxis, paid in cash or by card, and also sells public transport tickets.

Generally, Bratislava is a walking city, though as of the early 2020s with increasing number of cycling lines. The centre is very small and cosy and you can easily walk from one side to another in a few minutes. More on Wikivoyage
