Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the Long Market, 12 km from the airport (GDN): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to September; quietest in January, February, March and November.

Getting there

How far Gdańsk is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and E plugs at 220 / 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Złoty. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Poland: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards work almost everywhere in big cities; some small shops and post offices still want cash. Locals often pay with BLIK, a code from a Polish banking app.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Around 10% in restaurants if you were pleased; no custom of tipping taxi drivers. Saying 'thank you' as you hand over cash means keep the change.

Getting around Gdańsk

Tap a contactless bank card, phone or watch on the yellow and black FALA reader in the tram or bus: that buys a single-ride ticket for PLN 4.80, valid on one line, and tapping the same card again ends it. For a 75-minute ticket (PLN 6.00, changes allowed) or a 24-hour one (PLN 22.00), choose it on the touch screen of the machine midway along the vehicle; these devices take no cash, so to pay cash use the machines at stops and scan the paper ticket's QR code on board. Bus 210 links the airport with the city centre and the main railway station in about 40 minutes.

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, FreeNow, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: Messenger.

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency) · police 997 · ambulance 999 · fire 998.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
