Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the fortress and the centre: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to August; quietest in January, March and November.

  • Tipping — Not required, as service is included, but rounding up or leaving 10 to 15% is common in restaurants if you were pleased; round up in bars and taxis.

  • Apps — Rides: CarGo, Yandex Go. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: Viber. CarGo and Yandex Go verify your phone number by text message, which may not arrive, depending on your carrier.

Downtown area is easily accessible on foot from the bus or train stations, and most hotels and hostels. For a walk across the whole city in any direction, be prepared to spend at least two or three hours. More on Wikivoyage
