Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the Old Town, 20 km from the airport (LJU): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to September; quietest from October to March.

Then and now

Ljubljana's June days now average 26.3°C, 5.2°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 11 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Slovenia uses the euro. Cash still settles nearly two-thirds of payments in shops, cafés and the like (64% in 2024, by the European Central Bank's count), and ATMs are rare in the mountains and small villages, so carry enough cash there.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not generally practised: people may round up to the next euro, or tip for truly exceptional service.

Getting around Ljubljana

Jože Pučnik Airport is 25 km from Ljubljana: take a bus, or a licensed taxi from the marked rank. Ljubljana's bus station now works from a temporary site on Masarykova cesta, east of the railway station. City buses (LPP) cost €1.50 a ride, with free changes for 90 minutes on an Urbana card (€2, sold at kiosks, post offices, tourist information centres and the Urbana machines by many stops); you can also pay in the Urbana app or with a Visa or Mastercard card or phone, though a bank card gives no free changes, and drivers take no cash.

  • Apps — Rides: Uber, Wizi. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Use only officially marked taxis, and confirm the fare in advance or insist that the driver uses the meter, as you may be overcharged.

The centre of Ljubljana is small enough to cover by foot. You can pick up a free city map at a tourist information centre or in the train station. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — police 113 · ambulance and fire 112. For mountain rescue, call 112.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 8 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
