Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at St Helier, 7 km from the airport (JER): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in July, August and December; quietest from January to March.

Then and now

Jersey's June days now average 19.0°C, 3.4°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 11 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Jersey is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards are the usual way to pay, and every taxi must take them. The currency is sterling: British notes and coins work, but Jersey's own pounds, which come as change and from most ATMs, cannot be spent in the UK, so spend them before you leave or change them at a post office.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Restaurants set their own rules: some include service in their prices, others add 10% or more to the bill, and others leave a tip to you, so check the bill first.

Getting around Jersey

Buses run often from the stop in front of the airport's arrivals to Liberation Station in St Helier: route 22 is the express, about 20 minutes, and route 15 goes by St Aubin, about 30. Fares, passes and timetables are on LibertyBus's own site.

  • Apps — Rides: Jersey Taxiapp, Ryde. Maps: Google Maps. Both apps book the island's licensed taxis; the airport rank can run short at busy times, so you may want to pre-book a cab, though a pre-booked trip can cost more than the set rank fare.

Jersey as a whole is not an urban place, and getting around is not as easy as a traveller from a big city might expect: Although Jersey sports a comprehensive bus network, peripheral routes operate infrequently… More on Wikivoyage

What Jersey is like

Jersey is the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands. It's a self-governing dependency of the British Crown, but not part of the United Kingdom. It lies 14 miles (23 km) west of the Cherbourg peninsula of France in the Bay of St Malo, rather than in the Channel proper. More on Wikivoyage

Worth seeing
Consider buying a Jersey Heritage Pass for the main attractions. In 2022 it costs £36.75 adult, £33.25 senior, £24.40 child or student. More on Wikivoyage
Worth doing
Check the Jersey Evening Post, Jersey.com, or BBC Radio Jersey on 88.8 FM. Check the tides a few days in advance for those attractions reached by tidal causeway, since low tide comes 45-60 min later each day. More on Wikivoyage
Getting in
If you enter Jersey from the other Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the United Kingdom, there are no regular immigration checks. More on Wikivoyage
Staying safe
Jersey law derives from Norman customary law, now supplemented by English law and local statute. United Kingdom law does not automatically apply in Jersey, unless adopted by the parliament, the States of Jersey. More on Wikivoyage
Staying healthy
There is a hospital in St Helier which will be able to deal with most regular injuries. For specialist treatment, it is often necessary for patients to be taken to Great Britain. More on Wikivoyage
