Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Inari village, on Lake Inari, 36 km from the airport (IVL): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in February, November and December; quietest in April and May.

Then and now

Inari's December days now average -5.6°C, 3.2°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 4 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Inari is depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and F plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Finland: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Finland uses the euro. Cards and phone payments are accepted almost everywhere, even in taxis and at market stalls, Visa and Mastercard most widely; carry a few coins or small notes for rural places. A place that takes no cash usually shows a sign saying Ei käteistä.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not expected, as service is always included in the bill; people may round up or leave a couple of euros for great service.

Getting around Inari

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, FixuTaxi, Menevä, Taksi Helsinki, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp, Messenger. Taxi prices vary widely: each taxi shows its price list on its right-hand side, headed by the price of a 10 km, 15-minute example trip, so compare before you get in, and choose a fixed price when booking in an app. At Helsinki Airport, the official partner firms' taxis wait at the rank off the arrivals hall, about €40 to €45 to the centre; Uber, Bolt and pre-booked taxis pick up in the P2 parking hall.

Menevä Inari. Also bookable by app or web. Fixed price based on calculated route and time if destination address given when booking by app or web. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 8 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

What Inari is like

Inari (North Sami: Anár, Inari Sami: Aanaar, Skolt Sami: Aanar, Swedish: Enare) is a village in the municipality of the same name in Finnish Lapland, on the shore of Lake Inari. The village is an administrative and cultural centre of the Sami people in Finland (but not of the municipality itself). More on Wikivoyage

Worth seeing
You can observe the northern lights dancing across the dark sky between September and March, during your night walk if the sky is clear. Other sights: Siida museum (Inari Sámi Museum), Inarintie 46, Inari, FI-99870. More on Wikivoyage
Worth doing
Lake Inari is ideal for fishing, canoeing/kayaking and boating: you are mostly alone and maybe won't meet any person for weeks. The landscape is very nice because of the islands, but prepare for lots of mosquitoes. More on Wikivoyage
Getting in
The nearest airport is in Ivalo. By car, the easiest way to get here from southern Finland is by car/sleeper train to Rovaniemi. More on Wikivoyage
