Things to do in Huế

  • Imperial City of Hue Walled enclosure within the citadel of Huế, Vietnam
  • Tomb of Khai Dinh Dating from 1925, this is the best preserved of the lot and, while comparatively compact, quite grand at first sight.
  • Thien Mu Pagoda Perched on a bluff over the river and housing some very fine gold and silver Buddha images.
  • Tomb of Tu Duc Built between 1864–1867, the complex served as a second Imperial City where the emperor went for "working vacations".
  • Tomb of Gia Long The most remote of the tombs, quiet and fallen into disrepair as Gia Long, the first Nguyen emperor, was notoriously despotic.
  • Huế Museum of Royal Fine Arts Museum in Vietnam

Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the Citadel and the Perfume River, 14 km from the airport (HUI): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from January to March; quietest in June, August, September and October.

Then and now

Huế's June days now average 35.0°C, 3.7°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 10 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Huế is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type A and C and F and G plugs at 220 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Vietnamese đồng. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Vietnam: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards work in hotels, malls and tourist places; carry cash for street food, markets and small shops. Most shops show a VietQR code, which some Asian bank and wallet apps can now scan.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not expected, though welcome in tourist places. Carry small notes so a taxi driver cannot keep the change.

Getting around Huế

  • Apps — Rides: Green SM, Grab, Be. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: Zalo, WhatsApp. Green SM, the electric taxi and motorbike app, was called Xanh SM until April 2026, so older signs and guides use that name.

Like other Vietnamese cities, Hue is flooded with cyclos and motorbikes, as well as a few meter taxis. Taxi drivers are usually honest, but make sure they turn the meter on. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — police 113 · ambulance 115 · fire 114. The emergency lines answer in Vietnamese only.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 7 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
