Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Vernazza: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from May to September; quietest from October to March.

Then and now

Cinque Terre's June days now average 25.9°C, 3.5°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 12 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

Fly into Pisa (PI) (PSA), then drive. The flights under Where to book are to Pisa (PI).

Pisa (PI) (PSA) the drive is not measured yet
Genova (GE) (GOA) the drive is not measured yet

The drive from each airport is the road's, from openrouteservice.org by HeiGIT: typical, not a schedule.

How far Cinque Terre is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and F and L plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Italy: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — By law, shops, cafés and bars must take a card payment of any amount, and refusing one is fined. Carry a little cash for tips.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not customary; restaurants outside Rome often add a cover charge (coperto). Leaving the change in cafés and taxis is common.

Getting around Cinque Terre

Regional trains, the 5 Terre Express, link La Spezia Centrale and Levanto with the five villages; TAP&TAP, Trenitalia's tap-a-bank-card fare, does not cover trips within the park. From 14 March to 1 November 2026 a single within the park costs €5, €8 or €10 depending on the day and covers one direct trip within 75 minutes of validation; validate it before boarding where needed. The Cinque Terre Treno MS Card, in your name, gives unlimited regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia and the park's services for €22 to €35 a day; both are sold at Trenitalia ticket offices and station machines, on its site and app, and the card also at the park's sales points. From Genoa airport, an AMT bus reaches Genova Sestri Ponente Aeroporto station in about 5 minutes, and Trenitalia sells it with the train ticket for €1.50 more.

  • Apps — Rides: FreeNow, itTaxi, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. In Rome these apps book licensed taxis; Uber also offers the dearer Uber Black.

Frequent trains link all five villages with each other (Trenitalia-run trains as well as a train service run by the park authority), La Spezia and other places towards Genova (only Trenitalia-run). More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — police 112 · ambulance 118 · fire 115.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 7 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

The main attraction of the Cinque Terre is the landscape. Mediterranean herbs and trees grow spontaneously from the top of the hills down to the water level. More on Wikivoyage
Worth doing
The Cinque Terre boasts some of the best coastline hiking trails in the world. Several of these routes are actual, somewhat demanding hikes, and not leisurely walkways. More on Wikivoyage
