Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Alona Beach, Panglao: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.* Rainy days in June, July and October are as the weather station at Tagbilaran (17 km away) counts them, where it and the model disagree on a wet month (WMO 98644, 2017–2026).

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in January, February, March and November; quietest from May to August.

Then and now

Bohol's September days now average 29.8°C, 1.3°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 8 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Bohol is depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type A and B and C plugs at 220 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Philippine peso. UK Foreign Office: avoid all travel to parts. Everything for Philippines: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards work in malls, hotels and bigger restaurants; small shops, jeepneys and taxis mostly want cash. QR Ph codes (GCash, Maya) are common, and Alipay+ wallets usually work where GCash is taken.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Restaurants usually add a service charge, so a tip is optional. In taxis, round up or add 20–50 pesos; Grab lets you tip in the app.

Getting around Bohol

  • Apps — Rides: Angkas, Grab, JoyRide, Move It. Maps: Google Maps. Messages: Messenger, Viber. Grab is the main app for cars and metered taxis; Angkas, JoyRide and Move It are mostly motorbike taxis.

Bohol Island is easily accessible by jeepney, private car, bus, taxi, rental car, or motorcycle. Many of the towns in Bohol have a bus terminal where you can get a ride to other towns. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 911 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 3 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

Staying safe
Bohol generally doesn't have high crime rates. On the streets in Tagbilaran and while behind glass windows in fast food restaurants, you may be harassed by beggars, commonly Badjao (or Bajau) children or women. More on Wikivoyage
