Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Victoria Falls town, 18 km from the airport (VFA): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

No month stands out as busy; quietest in December.

Then and now

Victoria Falls's October days now average 35.0°C, 2.6°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 3 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Zimbabwe has a multi-currency system: the US dollar remains legal tender and pays for most things, beside the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), introduced in 2024. Bring enough US dollars in cash, in small notes, as US dollar cash is short and international cards cannot always draw it, change is rarely available, and torn or damaged notes are refused; most businesses prefer cash and some take no cards. Change money only at banks or bureaux de change: changing it anywhere else is illegal.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not obligatory but welcome: some nicer restaurants add a 10% service charge, and where none is added at least 10% is polite in restaurants, cafés and hotels, often in cash even when you pay by card; taxi drivers do not expect a tip.

Getting around Victoria Falls

Public transport is very limited and unreliable: from Victoria Falls International Airport, hire a shuttle or have your hotel book a taxi. Livingstone's airport (LVI), on the Zambian side, is the other way in, through the Victoria Falls border post. The KAZA Univisa (US$50, valid for 30 days), sold at Victoria Falls airport and at that border, covers Zimbabwe and Zambia and day trips into Botswana.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps. Use a taxi recommended by your hotel, as these are usually reliable, or book one through an authorised taxi centre; major hotels have their own. Avoid the commuter minibuses called combis, which are often overcrowded, uninsured and recklessly driven.

If you stay in the swanky hotels downtown, or even some of the budget accommodation options just outside the downtown area, walking is manageable. Most of the places are no more than 3 km away from Victoria Falls. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency). From a NetOne mobile, dial 114; from a landline, 0800 3222 911.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 8 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
