No fare history for this route yet, so this ranking is climate and crowds only — the price column will fill in as the scanner collects.

Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the old town, under the castle: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from July to September; quietest in January and April.

Then and now

Nuremberg's June days now average 24.9°C, 5.2°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 10 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Nuremberg is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and F plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Germany: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cash is still common: small cafés, independent shops and market stalls may not take cards, and foreign credit cards are less widely accepted. Supermarkets and chains take cards, often contactless.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Round up or add up to 10% in restaurants by telling the server the total as you pay. Give taxi drivers 5 to 10%.

Getting around Nuremberg

Buy a ticket in the NürnbergMOBIL or VGN Fahrplan & Tickets app, from machines in U-Bahn stations and at tram stops (cash or card), or from a bus driver; singles need no stamping. A price level A single covers Nuremberg, Fürth and Stein for 90 minutes (€3.90, €3.65 online), and a TagesTicket Solo (€10.60) a day or a weekend. The airport is in price level A, 12 minutes from the main station on the U2.

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, FreeNow, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.

The old town is best explored on foot. To get from one part of the old town to another by car or public transport, you will often have to leave the old town and reenter it at a different gate. More on Wikivoyage
