Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the centre, 8 km from the airport (MST): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in July, August and December; quietest in January and February.

Then and now

Maastricht's June days now average 23.1°C, 3.7°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 9 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

Fly into Zaventem (BRU), then drive. The flights under Where to book are to Zaventem.

Zaventem (BRU) the drive is not measured yet
Amsterdam (AMS) the drive is not measured yet
Maastricht (MST) the drive is not measured yet

The drive from each airport is the road's, from openrouteservice.org by HeiGIT: typical, not a schedule.

How far Maastricht is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type C and F plugs at 230 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Netherlands: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Debit and credit cards, mostly contactless, are the norm, and some shops are card only ('pin only'). Not every shop takes every card, credit cards especially, so ask if unsure and carry a second card or some cash.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — Not necessary, as service is included in prices; 5 to 10% is a generous tip for good service.

Getting around Maastricht

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.

This is by far the most attractive option as it allows travellers to see the beautiful winding streets in the centre of the city, as well as experience the cultural melting pot that Maastricht's location allows. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 3 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

What Maastricht is like

Considered to be one of the most beautiful cities of the country, Maastricht is the southernmost city in the Netherlands. It's the capital of the province of Limburg and famous for what the Dutch call the "Burgundian" way of life. More on Wikivoyage

Worth seeing
Perhaps one of the best (free) sights of Maastricht is simply to admire the two town squares in the centre of the city and the many old buildings around the street near the university and town wall: Vrijthof. More on Wikivoyage
Worth doing
Few Dutch cities take their carnival celebrations as seriously as Maastricht and when the weather is nice, the omnipresent music, laughter, costumes and parades might even make you think of Rio. More on Wikivoyage
Getting in
Maastricht-Aachen Airport (MST IATA). The small airport sees limited flights from selected cities in southern Europe. Most flights are seasonal, and discount carriers operate all of them. More on Wikivoyage
Staying safe
As with much of the Netherlands, Maastricht is a safe city if you are not looking for trouble. More on Wikivoyage
