Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Douglas, 12 km from the airport (IOM): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from June to August; quietest from January to March.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — The island has its own pounds, in the same denominations as the UK's. UK money is legal tender there, but Manx money is not accepted in the UK, though UK banks will change the notes; every cash machine gives Manx notes except those at the Sea Terminal and the airport, which give English ones.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.

Getting around Isle of Man

At Ronaldsway Airport, buses leave from the stand about 45 metres to the left of the main entrance: services 1, 1h, 2, 2a, 11 and 11a run to Douglas, £2.80 to the centre. Pay in cash or by contactless card or phone (not Maestro or American Express). A one-day Go Saver ticket (£7.50) covers all buses, and a one-day Go Explore ticket (£22) adds the heritage trains and trams, which run from late March to October; both are sold on board.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps. Taxis wait at ranks at the airport, the Sea Terminal and, in Douglas, on Harris Promenade (outside the Villa Marina), Lord Street and Victoria Street; many firms also take phone bookings round the clock.

Bus routes radiate from Douglas Lord Street Interchange near the ferry terminal. They run south every 20 minutes to the airport, Castletown, Port St Mary and Port Erin, and north hourly to Laxey and Ramsey. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 999 or 112 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
