Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the bays, by Santa Cruz and La Crucecita, 15 km from the airport (HUX): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from November to March; quietest from April to September.

Getting there

How far Huatulco is depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type A and B plugs at 127 V. Drives on the right. The currency is the Peso. UK Foreign Office: avoid all but essential travel to parts. Everything for Mexico: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Cards are widely accepted in cities, in chains and bigger restaurants; carry pesos for markets, street food, small family-run shops and anywhere rural.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — 10-15% in restaurants, usually left in cash on the table; taxi drivers do not expect a tip.

Getting around Huatulco

  • Apps — Rides: DiDi, inDrive, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Ride apps are not authorised to pick up at Mexican airports; at Mexico City airport, take a fixed-fare authorised taxi from the stands inside.

The Bahías de Huatulco tourist area revolves around a few town centers: La Crucecita is the biggest town center, where vacationers and local tourism workers mix freely. More on Wikivoyage

What Huatulco is like

Bahías de Huatulco (pronounced Wha-TOOL-Co), is a destination resort area on Mexico's Pacific Coast in its most southern state of Oaxaca. More commonly known to outsiders as just Huatulco, the area is locally referred to as "Bahias" to distinguish it from the original, further-inland town of Santa María Huatulco. More on Wikivoyage

Worth seeing
The "Bays of Huatulco" are the main sightseeing attraction, with daily boat trips (550-600 pesos per person for a "colectivo" boat) visiting multiple sheltered beaches… More on Wikivoyage
Worth doing
The main activity here is hanging out on the beach. More on Wikivoyage
Getting in
Huatulco is a 10-hour drive or a 1-hour flight from Mexico City, or a 6-hour drive or very short flight from the city of Oaxaca. More on Wikivoyage
Staying safe
The Huatulco area seems to be very safe in terms of crime. Maybe consider inquiring locally before wandering dark parts of Crucecita at night. More on Wikivoyage
