Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, 7 km from the airport (GCM): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in January and July; quietest in October.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Prices may be in Cayman Islands dollars (CI$) or US dollars, which are widely accepted, so check which one you are paying in; most hotels and restaurants take credit cards.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.

Getting around The Cayman Islands

Public minibuses, marked by a route number in a coloured circle, link every district of Grand Cayman with the depot on Edward Street, George Town: wait at a stop or wave one down. The average fare is CI$2, and at weekends the service is limited and unscheduled. Taxi fares are set: from the airport, US$27 to the Ritz-Carlton or US$34 to the Kimpton Seafire, for up to four people.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. The Public Transport Unit's CI:GO app works out a taxi's set fare in advance, in US and Cayman dollars, but cannot book a ride.

Car rentals are readily available. You must be 21 years old to rent a car. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 911 (any emergency). 911 also reaches the police marine unit and the divers' hyperbaric chamber; the Royal Cayman Islands Coast Guard is on (345) 649 6722.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
