Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the centre, 23 km from the airport (BSZ): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest from July to September; quietest in January, February and April.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — The currency is the som (KGS), seldom sold outside the country; pay in som, though US dollars are taken at times. Cards are widely used, Visa almost everywhere but Mastercard not always, and paying by QR code is common. ATMs in the cities pay out som and US dollars, often up to about 10,000 som at a time; bring cash to rural areas, where there may be none, and use ATMs in well-lit public places or inside a bank, as card fraud is common.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.

Getting around Bishkek

Express bus 153 links Manas International Airport with the Asanbay district of Bishkek, stopping only at its designated stops, with night departures at midnight, 3am and 5am since 17 October 2025. A ride on a city bus costs 17 som, or 20 som in cash, and on a minibus 20 som, by the city hall's tariffs. The FCDO advises avoiding local buses and minibuses where possible, as they are not always well maintained and pickpockets work on them.

  • Apps — Rides: Yandex Go. Maps: Google Maps. Do not flag down taxis in the street: order a licensed taxi in advance or use a trusted ride app, take only officially marked taxis with meters, ask for the meter or agree the fare first, and avoid shared taxis.

Checkout the 2GIS app and website, which is great for finding the right marshrutka or bus number in Bishkek and all over Kyrgyzstan. The service is used extensively by the locals. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 (any emergency) · police 102 · ambulance 103 · fire 101. In Issyk-Kul province, the tourist police answer in English and Russian on +996 705 00 91 02, also on WhatsApp.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 8 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.
