Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at Nassau, 14 km from the airport (NAS): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

No month stands out as busy; quietest in October and November.

Then and now

The Bahamas's April days now average 27.0°C, 2.1°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 12 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — The Bahamian dollar is worth the same as the US dollar, and both are accepted on every island. Not every taxi takes cards, so ask first, and carry cash for jitney buses and the Out Islands.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — 15% is usual for waiters and taxi drivers, and $1 a bag for porters; many places already add the gratuity to the bill, so check it first.

Getting around The Bahamas

Jitney buses run in downtown Nassau and out to Cable Beach from about 6:30am to 7pm. Pay in cash as you get off; have the exact fare ready.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Nassau has no Uber or Lyft; take a licensed taxi (yellow plates marked TN), which charges set fares by zone, and confirm the fare before you set off.

Bahamasair offers a comprehensive network radiating out from Nassau and covering most population centers. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 911 or 919 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
