Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the town under the Rock: ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in July; quietest in February.

Then and now

Gibraltar's July days now average 29.6°C, 2.7°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 11 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — The currency is the pound: Bank of England notes and UK coins are taken alongside Gibraltar's own, of the same value, but Scottish and Northern Irish notes usually are not, and Gibraltar's notes and coins are not usually accepted in the UK. Some businesses take euros, but check the exchange rate offered.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.

Getting around Gibraltar

The airport sits at the land frontier, and many visitors walk into town across its runway: if the lights turn red, wait at the barrier. Citibus routes 5, 10 and X5 serve the airport, and its buses run from the Frontier terminus there into town by way of Market Place, for £1.80 a single; a Hopper ticket gives a day's unlimited travel on all Gibraltar's public buses.

  • Apps — Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Uber trips from Spain now end at the border, as only taxis licensed in Gibraltar may carry paying passengers there: walk through the frontier and take a Gibraltar taxi or a bus. Taxis wait outside the airport terminal.

Gibraltar is less than 7 km² in size, so much of it can be seen on foot. Some of the roads (especially up to the Upper Rock) are very steep. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 999 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
