On arrival
- Paying — Foreign cards work for most purchases; carry some riyals for small amounts and for tips.
- UPI, for visitors from India — Only at a few shops with QNB card machines, Qatar Duty Free among them: scan the QR on the machine with your UPI app. Bring a card for everything else.
- Tipping — Most restaurants include a service charge; a 10-15% tip, in cash, is still appreciated.
Getting around Doha
Buy a travel card from any Doha Metro station machine and tap in and out; a full day of metro travel costs at most QAR 6.
- Apps — Rides: badrgo, Karwa, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp. Careem does not operate in Qatar.
