Rain days are the days with at least 1 mm of rain, as a weather station counts them.

Weather read at the centre, 7 km from the airport (ORK): ten years of ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, through Open-Meteo's open data.

A busy month is a crowded one, not a bad one — usually it is crowded because the weather is good. It is flagged rather than scored down, and crowds alone never make a month “avoid”: that is reserved for weather worth skipping.

How busy it gets

Busiest in July, August and December; quietest in January, February, October and November.

Then and now

Cork's May days now average 15.5°C, 1.2°C warmer than in 1981–1990. 2 of 12 months are clearly warmer.

Getting there

How far Cork is, and what it costs, depends on where you set off from — the months above do not.

Before you go

Type G plugs at 230 V. Drives on the left. The currency is the Euro. No UK Foreign Office advice against travel. Everything for Ireland: cost of living, languages, emergency numbers and health.

Being there

On arrival

  • Paying — Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere, and taxis must take cards without a surcharge. Carry a little cash in case a card is refused.
  • UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
  • Tipping — 10 to 15% is usual in restaurants; tipping in pubs is not expected. Round taxi fares up to the next euro if you like.

Getting around Cork

  • Apps — Rides: Bolt, FreeNow, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.

Cork has a small city centre, and most places to stay, eat, drink and tour are within one busy km. So too are the transport hubs. More on Wikivoyage

Help

  • Emergency — 112 or 999 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.

What Cork is like

Cork is the principal city of County Cork in southwest Ireland. Known as "the Rebel City" the "real capital of Ireland", Cork has a strong independence and Corkonians are proud of its role in Irish history. This historic merchant port has a lot of Georgian architecture and lively arts, music and food scenes. More on Wikivoyage

Worth seeing
Crawford Art Gallery, Emmett Place T12 TNE6. The permanent collection includes paintings by Jack Yeats and Sean Keating, and a series of plaster casts of classical statues, which King George IV found tedious. More on Wikivoyage

Staying safe
Cork is mostly safe, but show usual caution around rowdy drunks. More on Wikivoyage
