On arrival
- Apps — Rides: Bolt, FreeNow, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: WhatsApp.
- Paying — Debit and credit cards work in most shops in Vienna, even for small sums, but Austria is cash-minded and some shops and cafés still take cash only.
- UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
- Getting around Vienna — Buy tickets in the WienMobil app or at station machines; 24-hour and longer passes suit visitors. A Tap+Ride trial at nine U-Bahn stations sells single rides when you tap a bank card.
- Tipping — About 5 to 10% in restaurants and cafés, added as you pay, in cash or on the card; check the bill first. Taxi drivers are usually tipped too, though it is not required.
- Emergency — 112 (any emergency) · police 133 · ambulance 144 · fire 122.
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 3 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

Every verdict here is the destination's own: ten years of climate readings, the public holidays that crowd it, and what the flight costs. Nothing is said about Austria as a whole that was not first measured at each place in it.
