Each cell is that destination's own verdict for the month — sweet spot, ok or avoid — with its typical daily high, from the same ten years of climate readings its page is built from. A dot marks a busy month. The last row counts the sweet spots, and the best months are marked.

On arrival
- Apps — Rides: DiDi, Uber. Maps: Google Maps, Apple Maps. Messages: Messenger, Text messages (SMS), WhatsApp.
- Paying — Cards and contactless (called paywave) work almost everywhere; a few small shops take only New Zealand cards, so carry a little cash. Some shops add a surcharge for credit or contactless payments, which must be clearly shown.
- UPI, for visitors from India — Not accepted for paying here; bring a card that works abroad.
- Getting around Auckland — Tap a contactless bank card or phone on AT HOP readers on buses, trains and most ferries (not Waiheke or tourist ferries); adult fares, capped at $20 a day. An AT HOP card works too.
- Getting around Queenstown — Pay Orbus fares with a Bee Card or cash, as bank cards are not taken on the buses. With a Bee Card ($5 plus a $5 minimum top-up, from a retailer, online or from the driver in cash) an adult ride is $2.50 against $4 in cash, with free transfers within 45 minutes when you tag on and off; to or from the airport it is $2.50 by Bee Card or $10 in cash. The Orbus ferry costs $10 a trip by Bee Card or $14 by bank card.
- Tipping — Not expected, even in restaurants; prices include service. Rounding up a taxi fare is fine.
- Emergency — 111 (any emergency).
TravelCharika is not an emergency service: we cannot call for help or send anyone. Numbers can change; if one fails, ask someone local or your hotel.
Put together by hand from the sources listed, checked 7 October 2026. Apps, cards and rules change, so check before you rely on one.

Every verdict here is the destination's own: ten years of climate readings, the public holidays that crowd it, and what the flight costs. Nothing is said about New Zealand as a whole that was not first measured at each place in it.
